Gazel

Ey aṭṭ-i yâr her arafa nâmeyi aġıt
ʽUşşâıñ işi bitdi bu hengâmeyi aġıt

Eşcâr-ı kûhsâr baña ol alub dedi
Uryân-ı ‘aş
olub bize gel câmeyi aġıt

Bir noḳṭanuñ aîatıdür çün urûf-u kevn
Ey
âce ‘ârif ol vara-u-âmeyi aġıt

Gül mevsiminde bâdeye fetvâ dilerse al
Eknâf-ı dehre bir nice ‘allâmeyi
aġıt

Şâh ol ayâlī kişverine mumaʽinnenüñ
Tîġ-i himemle
ʽasker-i levvâmeyi aġıt

Oh decree of the beloved’s young beard, broadcast the message everywhere
“The lovers are dead and gone”, broadcast this tumultuous cry

The mountain trees reached out branches to me and said
“Become naked for love, come to us and cast your garments away”

When the ideal alphabet of worldly existence is but the truth of a dot
O learned one, be wise and cast away both leaves and reed

n the season of flowers, if the people beg a fatwa permitting wine
Let a host of the greatest scholars scatter to every corner of this earth

Become King, Hayâlî, of the land of tranquil-mindedness
With the sword of (holy) patronage, scatter the soldiers of blame
