In the world of the heart
Banners were raised by the Sultan of love
The Monarch of reason
became a slave to the royal decree of love
If union and separation
are the same to me, no wonder,
How can he tell day from night,
one bewildered and confused by love?
At its table, the green vault of the heavens
took the place of vegetables
When the feast of love was set for the lover
in the gathering of eternity
The ship of the heart fell into
the whirlpool of the beloved’s dimple
When it began to be battered
with waves by the endless ocean of love
Oh my beloved, this (world) is a meadow, where the heart,
in a black passion for your locks,
Blooms in every corner with hyacinths
and the fragrant herbs of love
What they suffer, at every moment,
is melancholy passion for stony-hearted loves
The heart and soul have come to resemble
scales on the balance of love
Those who see my breast say —
imagining your lovelock and brows—
Filled with the tents of insurgents
is the battlefield of love
To drive the polo-ball of reproach
from the soul, with the hand of desire,
Your eyebrows offered to the heart-less ones
the mallet of love
I am a lover, do me a favour,
as it is with the rest of my virtues,
Don’t make a cause for anxiety
and disappointment of the gnostic wisdom of love
See my heart, passionate for your cheeks,
in the night of your lovelocks
Adorned with lamps
of divine light is the shop of love
Oh Ca
ˁfer, this poem of mine
Is a declaration of affection
For that rose-cheeked cypress,
Whose rubric is the word ‘love’
